This statement on what the First Federated Church believes was born out of an 8 week visioning process and was voted on and overwhelmingly approved at a congregational meeting.

What Do We Believe?

We are a diverse theological mix.  (“Many parts, one body” 1 Corinthians 12) Our diverse beliefs extend far beyond the original three denominations that formed the federation in 1929. We understand that each person entering this church comes with their own history that informs their personal theology. We respect the uniqueness of each individual.  Acceptance, tolerance and love allow the many different theological expressions to agree to disagree.

We believe that God’s grace is unearned and extends to all humanity. (“…since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God; they are now justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”  Romans 3:23-24). We believe that if God can love each of us equally than we are called to extend that same unconditional love towards each other. We believe that everyone shall be treated with the same love and respect regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, ethnicity, denominational background, or disability. (“Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned.  Forgive and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37)

We believe that all worship styles are relevant and acceptable in the eyes of God in that they are means to an end. We believe that worship is a means to give thanks and praise to God; deepen our faith in order to send us back into the world in mission. When any style of worship service points us towards these ends then that worship style is important.  When the worship style ceases to point to these ends or even becomes an end in and of itself then that style of worship loses its significance. (“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and truth.” John 4:24)

We believe that the work of the church extends far beyond the physical structure used as a meeting place. The church is the people who gather together in the name of God and understand that “the world is our parish” (John Wesley). We are called to “love our neighbor as our self” (Luke 12:30-31), “go make disciples” (Matthew 28:18-20), and “care for the hungry, thirsty, strangers, naked, sick and imprisoned.” (Matthew 25:34-46)

If you are visiting this sight then this paragraph means nothing.  The youth have to find the names of the disciples on our website.  This paragraph was written just to look like any other paragraph so I can put the name Philip on the website.  This way the youth have to read everything on the website because they don't know when or where I might put a name in a paragraph.  Yes I am mean!
